Dr Margaret Lee is a native Hongkonger who studied art and design at Parsons and University of Washington in the United States. Having returned to Hong Kong in 1994, she started to pursue her passion for painting in 2001.
Her early works of flower still-lives and family portraits represent a vivid expression of intense emotions. Later on her artistic style and focus shifted to the realm of collage, with charcoal being her major medium. For the past few years, she has started to impart oil painting elements to her collage works. Dr Lee travels widely in search of inspirations. The subjects of her paintings come from the memorable moments and trivia in life. Her works are a tasteful reflection of the beauty of life.
As the first Asian artist to hold exhibition in Hofburg Palace, her 2008 solo exhibition in Vienna earned her popularity across Europe. She was later on invited to the VII Florence Biennale. The two exceptional experiences further fuelled her passion for art, which drove her to pursue further study in literature and art. She earned a Master Degree in Literature and Cultural Studies, followed by a Doctorate in Art in the space of 6 years at the University in Hong Kong. Last year, she started to unleash her artistic vision on jewellery design through her own brand, MARET Fine Jewellery.
