Michelle Leung Sulger

2017 Nominee | Power and Influence

Michelle Leung Sulger

Michelle Leung is the founder and CEO of Xingtai Capital, a Chinese consumer-focused hedge fund. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Michelle attended St Stephen’s Girls College, and after graduation left for Peking University. Michelle later attended the London School of Economics, which led to working at the United Nations in New York, and serving on peacekeeping operations in Cambodia and South Africa. While in Cambodia, Michelle was accepted at Harvard Business School, joined Goldman Sachs, and later became the COO of Tom Group, the internet and media arm of Hutchison Whampoa.

After taking maternity leave, Michelle joined Lunar Capital, a leading Chinese private equity firm, and shortly thereafter founded Xingtai Capital, all while raising four children. Michelle’s experience as one of the youngest-ever female executive directors of a Hong Kong-listed company, working with entrepreneurs in private equity, and dealing with government and foreign policy has driven her passionate belief that women have a unique understanding of customers, relationships, investment potential and management talent. In an industry that often favours alpha-males, Michelle champions the view that women’s experience and insights can move the needle, and should be nurtured and cultivated.
